Cesaresco, Count Eugenio Martinengo, The Psychology and Training of the Horse
Cesaresco, Count Eugenio Martinengo
The Psychology and Training of the Horse
T. Fisher Unwin, London, 1906. First Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Like all other animals the horse is composed of a machine and of a mind which sets the machine in motion. People who manage horses usually give little importance to the mind. But the mind is most important as to command the machine we must first command the mind. Some observations on this subject may be useful to those who have to do with horses. I have added a few remarks on bridling, on the use of the curb-bit and on turning. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 334 pages. Deckled outer & bottom edges (rough cut); some pages uncut. Top edge gilt in good condition. Gilt titles on biege label spine; brown titles & horses head on biege panel to front.. Lacking frontis. illustration; light wear to outer corners. brown cloth. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Sports & Pastimes; Horses; Riding; Animal Psychology; Animals & Birds. Inventory No: 2939.

Rugby Injuries (School Edition)
Edward Arnold/Offox Press, London, 1982. First Thus, Softcover. As New. 9780713108477 What advice should be given to a player who has been unconscious? What symptoms should make you think that a player has fractured a rib? When is a physiotherapist most useful? How can you reduce the risk of a pulled muscle? What are the signs of an infection in a cut or abrasion? These, and hundreds of similar questions, confront coaches and schoolteachers who have responsibility for rugby teams but rarely have access to immediate medical services. Rugby Injuries helps coaches and teachers not only to reach the right answers but also to ask the right questions in the first place. The book emphasizes safety and the prevention of injury and describes the treatment of those injuries which do occur. Having surveyed the treatment of muscle, joint and skin injuries the authors then discuss those injuries which commonly occur in each part of the body. For each injury the same type of information is given - Is it safe to treat the injury or is expert advice needed? What first aid should be given? What steps should be taken by the player in the first twenty-four hours after injury to speed the recovery process? When is it safe to return to train and then to play? This information is presented in such a way that it is comprehensible to people who have had neither medical nor nursing training. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 204 pages. no Dust Jacket as published.. White titles spine. illustrated by b/w. drawings. Includes index. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams. Near Fine/Near Fine. 9780216897892 silver titles spine; illustrated by b/w. drawings; "The delights and terrors of the sporting life are celebrated in a collection of memorable stories: motor races, yacht races, horse races, skydiving, mountain climbing, show-jumping, team sports such as cricket and rugby, the ancient recreations of falconry and jousting, and many other games and tests of skill. Fiction by such masters as Dickens, Conan Doyle and H. G. Wells accompanies personal reminiscences by record-smashing racing driver Malcolm Camp bell, horsewoman Pat Smythe, and other great athletes of our time. Homer records the great Funeral Games held by Achilles. Leo Tolstoy leads a bear hunt through the snow-covered Russian forest. Damon Runyon tells the sentimental tale of Baseball Hattie, the toughest fan the New York Giants ever had. Ernest Hemingway describes the bloodthirsty rituals of the bullring, while William Hazlitt offers the more 'gentlemanly' violence of the prizefight. Humourist P. G. Wodehouse supplies a whimsical account of the beginnings of the noble game of 'gowf'. How the T. T. Started
Booklet Island Development Co. Ltd. Douglas, Isle of Man, undated. First Edition, Softcover (Saddle-stapled). Near Fine Condition. no date but circa 1970's; Times (The Isle of Man Times) Monographs Series 1 No. 1. The staccato cough of racing engines that was the birth-cry six decades ago of the international-famous T.T. was also the roaring acceptance of a challenge... A challenge to men. And a challenge to machines. It was a challenge to make two wheels go faster; a challenge to human skill and ingenuity to make machines safer and more reliable. It was not an easy task, considering the difficulties and obstacles that faced those pioneers of yesterday in their long leather coats and rubber ponchos. But they did it. They accepted the challenge. And over the years, one by one, the man-made barriers dissolved before them. Now, all these years later, we salute those who made it all possible, and all the many people since who in countless ways nurtured the T.T. cared for it, 'and helped develop it into what it is today. History of Yorkshire County Cricket 1924-1949
Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds, Yorkshire, 1950. First Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. b/w. frontis. photo. of the club president (T L Taylor); contents list; list of illustrations; preface; foreword; colour photo. of the Right Honourable Lord Hawke )president 1898-1938; The twenty-five years from 1924 to 1949 cover a period in which Yorkshire were always an important force in the cricket world. Fortunes varied from triumph to disappointment, popularity had its ups and downs, but the performances, the personalities, and the influence of the club remained at all times an important feature of the game. What Yorkshire did and what Yorkshiremen said always made cricket news, some of it ephemeral enough, much of it graven deeply on the tablets of history. In the twenty playing seasons the county championship was won eleven times, and the lowest position ever occupied was eighth in 1947. As the period began, a wave of success was just breaking into the 'white horses' that mark the beginning of a fall; the resurgence of the nineteen-thirties finally crashed upon the rocky beach of war, and in the backwash and the eddies dwelt the inspiration for the high tides of the future. Yorkshire were sometimes a magnificent team, sometimes less than great, but never, throughout the whole period, were they without a great player, one whose name was known as well in Sydney as in Sheffield. It was the time of Sutcliffe, Verity, Bowes and Hutton, when these were at the peak of power; it joined a generation gone through the link of Wilfred Rhodes, and made its contact with the future through the batsmanship of Leonard Hutton; to rear: colour photo. of centenary flag (1849-1949) Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 344 pages. minor marks to frontr cover (white spots). Book Guild Publishing Ltd, Lewes, East Sussex, 2002. First Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth), Illustrated by: Tim Jaques. Fine Condition/Fine Condition. 9781857766882 Signed by Author. signed by the author on the pre-title page with the inscription: "to Anne-Marie with best wishes, Jeremy Paul"; also, loosely inserted, is a handwritten & signed card from the author gifting the book to Anne-Marie (believed to be Anne-Marie Minhall - a presenter on Classic FM radio station). In 1933 A. G. Macdonell wrote a novel, England, Their England, which remains in print on the basis of a single chapter generally acknowledged to be the funniest account of a cricket match ever written - when a motley group of Londoners and one American, led by the incomparable Mr. Hedge, arrive in various states of dysfunction to play a village cricket team. The comic antics were based on real people - Mr. Hedge was poet, publisher and critic Sir John Squire - and a real team, the Invalids Cricket Club. This is the first book to tell their true story. Formed after the First World War by veterans returning wounded, invalided or otherwise, the Invalids featured novelists, actors, Test Match players, politicians, private detectives and even, when times demanded, women and boys. An Invalid stalwart for many years, Jeremy Paul has delved into the club archives and interviewed past and present players, to produce an entertaining overview of the progress of a club that has upheld the true traditions of amateur sportsmanship: 'playing hard in lovely rural surroundings and not giving a jot who wins'. He also takes a look at the current state of the village game and did a bit of crystal ball gazing in imagining a match in the year 2014. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 171 pages.
